How I Make Your Kids Laugh During Our Photo Session

August 18, 2023

How I make your kids laugh during our photo session is something I absolutely love to do! I’m such a big kid myself, so it’s easy for me to be silly with the kids! Making them laugh can result in joyful and genuine expressions that create memorable and heartwarming photographs. The photos can end up being the best candid moments and you’ll look back and say “Yep! That’s SO my child right there!”

Tips to help you bring out those delightful giggles with me

  • Use Humor: Playful and silly antics can often make kids laugh. Use funny faces, exaggerated gestures, or even a silly dance to capture their attention and bring smiles to their faces.
  • Tickle Time: Light tickling can be a great way to elicit genuine laughter. Just be sure to gauge their comfort level and always prioritize their boundaries.
  • Engaging Props: Props like bubbles, stuffed animals, or toys can add an element of fun to the session. These items can help create a relaxed and playful atmosphere, making it easier to capture candid and joyful moments.
  • Funny Noises: Making funny noises, like animal sounds or exaggerated sneezes, can catch kids off guard and lead to laughter.
  • Interactive Games: Incorporate simple games like peek-a-boo, Simon says, or funny storytelling into the session. These activities engage their imagination and sense of play.
  • Ask for Their Input: Sometimes asking kids for their opinions or ideas can make them feel valued and excited. For instance, you could say, “Hey, do you have any funny faces you want to show me?”
  • Parent Participation: Sometimes, parents’ interactions and playful behavior can be the best way to make kids laugh. If the child sees their parents having fun, they’re more likely to join in.
  • Play with Siblings: If there are siblings involved, encourage them to interact and play with each other. Sibling dynamics can often lead to genuine laughter and interactions.
  • Surprise Props: Bring out surprise props or toys that they haven’t seen before. The novelty factor can pique their interest and curiosity, leading to spontaneous laughter.
  • Be Patient: Not every attempt will result in immediate laughter. Give kids time to warm up and get comfortable with the environment and with me the photographer. Patience is key to capturing those genuine moments.
  • Be Respectful: Always respect the child’s boundaries and comfort level. Some kids might be shy or sensitive, so be mindful of their emotions and reactions.
  • Remember that every child is different, and what works for one might not work for another. My goal is to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere where kids can express themselves naturally. Your genuine enthusiasm, positivity, and creativity will go a long way in making the photo session a fun experience for everyone involved!
